Choose Equine Therapy First; Not as a Last Resort
Jessie and Kelly partner to provide equine assisted psychotherapy (equine therapy) services to clients who are dealing with the symptoms of past traumatic events. Often these can include anxiety, depression, eating disorders, post-traumatic stress, attachment disorders, ADHD/ADD, nightmares, insomnia, GI issues, chronic pain/illness and situational stress.
Past clients frequently describe this work as life-changing, sharing that they finally feel present instead of stuck in survival mode, empowered instead of overwhelmed, and able to respond to life's challenges with calm, clarity, and authenticity. Whether through Somatic Experiencing®, mindfulness, or the remarkable wisdom of horses, this work helps people reconnect with the resilient, whole person they were always meant to be—so they can stop merely surviving and begin truly thriving.
Equine Therapy, or Equine-Assisted Mental Health services are experiential, meaning that our clients actually experience safety in a natural setting that provides the opportunity for the creation of new nuero-pathways in the brain. Activities taking place during therapy sessions are specifically targeted to therapeutic goals which are set during intake sessions and are re-evaluated throughout the process. Most of the work we do is on the ground, and this is not hippotherapy or recreational riding.
No experience with horses is expected or required. Even those that are afraid of, or dislike horses, can benefit from these interactions.
All team members are trauma-informed and have experience with nature therapy, mindfulness and somatic experiencing.
Since a very young age, I would find solace amongst animals and nature.
My sense of direction, my purpose, and my true self always found a safe haven when connected to all living beings around us. A strong sense of care, empathy and compassion has always guided me in this life and even when the waves got too big to fight against, my connection to all that is around me guided me to shore.
I believe we all need a safe place, a sounding board, a place in which no judgment comes into play so that we can truly heal. The world we live in can often be scary, harsh and we often do not have the tools to navigate it. If there is something I want to be able to accomplish in this beautiful, crazy thing we call life, is to be there for others: animals, humans, nature. Quite some time ago, when I was on a very long flight that landed me to this place I now call home, I made a promise to an elderly gentleman who was sitting next to me: ‘I will always do my best to ensure no one is left behind, no one feels alone’ . This is the journey I have been on.
I truly believe we all have the answers within ourselves, but challenges, trauma, fear, disconnection, made us not trust ourselves, not listen to ourselves. The foundation of my work is based on helping my clients tap into themselves, connect to themselves, listen to their bodies and emotions and support them in establishing the tools needed to navigate these waters and find their center. Technology has pushed away from our natural rhythms and genuine connection (just to name a few): I believe it is important for us to get ‘back to the basics’, to get back into connection with ourselves, others, nature and all of her beings.
I graduated from Arizona State University in 2018 with a Bachelor Degree in Spanish and then graduated from the University of South Florida in 2022 with my Master’s in Clinical Social Work. I’m currently licensed as a Licensed Clinical Social Work (LCSW). I practice EMDR, as well as a blend of cognitive behavioral therapy, somatic therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, mindfulness, acceptance therapy, positive psychology, solution focused therapy, emotion focused therapy and I am currently studying under Gabor Mate in his Compassionate Inquiry course. I also am certified with the Natural Lifemanship Institute.
My clients often commented on my approach being gentle, nurturing and yet firm. Every emotion, every challenge, every person is welcome and I do my darndest to ensure that everyone feels safe in their healing journey.
I believe healing is ultimately a return to wholeness—a coming home to ourselves and reconnecting with the wisdom, resilience, meaning, and life force that already live within us. For me, this is sacred work. It is about reconnecting mind, body, and spirit and creating space to experience the presence of your True Self.
My work with Jessie is an invitation to slow down, quiet the noise, and reconnect with what is true and alive within you. Through Somatic Experiencing®, mindfulness, nature, and the powerful partnership of horses, we help create an environment where something deeper can emerge. Together, we can begin to uncover and resolve what may have been keeping you stuck, disconnected, overwhelmed, or unable to fully experience the life you want to live.
I have spent more than 25 years working with people, horses, and the healing potential of nature. I am a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner®, a Certified Equine Professional with the Natural Lifemanship Institute, and a Peer Support Professional with the State of Colorado. I have partnered with 16 licensed mental health professionals to provide equine-assisted mental health services and have accumulated thousands of hours supporting people as a trauma recovery specialist, somatic practitioner, integrative wellness coach, mindfulness expert, and equine professional.
Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with people from many different backgrounds and walks of life. I have consulted for prestigious organizations, including the award-winning Miraval Resort & Spa, and I am a trainer for Equine Experience International.
I hold a Bachelor of Business Administration from Texas Tech University and am the author of Unbridled Connection: Soul Discovery Through Nature and Horses. I have also been a four-time contributor to Equine Leadership Magazine.
What matters most to me, however, is not simply the work I have done or the credentials I have earned. It is the transformation I have witnessed in people—the moment someone begins to feel like themselves again, discovers a sense of possibility, or realizes that the parts of themselves they thought were lost may still be there waiting to be found.
That is why I do this work. I believe there is something whole and deeply alive within each of us, and sometimes we simply need the right space, relationship, and experience to find our way back to it.
